Expandable Housing by Modular Integrated Construction (eMiC)
In order to optimise sizes and configurations of MiC modules for efficient interior layout and simple on-site erection, it is necessary to develop a new MiC system which is highly effective under standardisation and customisation.
Expandable Housing by Modular Integrated Construction (eMiC) offers an adaptable MiC building system with various spatial capacities and architectural flexibility to meet a wide range of functional requirements, accommodation configurations and terrain constraints.
Led by Design Institute for Social Innovation at PolyU, this is a collaborative project among various practitioners and CNERC, and the project team has completed the following tasks:
1. To develop various adaptive architectural layouts for eMiC modules.
2. To develop a standardised building cluster with optimised functions.
3. To develop effective structural forms and inter-module connections for multi-storey buildings using eMiC modules.
4. To devise a number of practical methods on the mechanism on expanding these eMiC modules,
The project was selected to receive awards from Green Building Award 2021 and CIC Construction Innovation Award 2022.
