Biography
Prof. Bin Xiao is currently a Professor in the Dept. of Computing, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He received the B.Sc and M.Sc degrees in Electronics Engineering from Fudan University, China, and Ph.D. degree in computer science from University of Texas at Dallas, USA. After his Ph.D. graduation, he joined the Department of Computing of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University as an Assistant Professor. He has been the director of the Mobile Cloud Computing Lab in the department. Since 2018, he has been the Dept. Research Committee (DRC) chair to be responsible for the dept. research activity. His research interests include AI and network security, data privacy, and blockchain systems, with the focus on AI security and applications, learning model security, data privacy, blockchain and network security, and blockchain system development.
Prof. Xiao is the editor of 3 books and has published more than 150 technical papers in international journals and conferences. His publications can be found at top journals such as IEEE TNET, TC, TMC, TPDS, TIFS, TSP, ACM TOSN, and top conferences such as ACM CCS, ACM Ubicomp, IEEE INFOCOM, ICNP, ICDCS, IPDPS. He gave over 10 keynote speeches and invited talks at international conferences and was the guest editor of 7 special issues, including IEEE Transactions on Network Science and Engineering (TNSE). He has participated in the organization of international conferences and served as conference/symposium program/general chairs. He has been the symposium co-chair of IEEE ICC2020, ICC 2018 and Globecom 2017, the program chair of CloudCom-Asia 2016, and the general chair of IEEE SECON 2018. He has served as TPC member in many reputable international conferences, e.g., IEEE INFOCOM, ICDCS, IPDPS, ICPP, MASS, ICC, GLOBECOM. He has served in editorial boards of several prestigious journals, including Journal of Parallel and Distributed Computing (JPDC). He has been the vice chair (publication) and secretary of the IEEE ComSoc Communications and Information Security Technical Committee (CISTC).
