Novel software raises standard in aero engine maintenance

In collaboration with the Hong Kong Aero Engine Services Limited (HAESL), engineers of PolyU’s Industrial Centre (IC) have achieved a breakthrough in aero engine maintenance. By applying a mathematics-based software, developed by the UK Metrology Software Products Limited (MSP), to the multiple axes machining of turbine blades, the scrap rates in turbine blade repair will be greatly reduced.

After months of exploration, development and modification by IC, HAESL and MSP experts, the first batch of turbine blades applying this new software has successfully passed the repair test at IC and is approved by HAESL for further production. HAESL has plans to use this software application in its turbine blade repair cell. Details>>
