In May 2011, Dr Regina Lee, Assistant Professor of PolyU’s School of Nursing, has conducted a survey in all local primary and secondary schools to investigate how school nurses can help to improve the health of school children. Over 80% of the responding schools agreed to have a school nurse stationed on campus and over 90% thought that school nurses can do a better job in promoting health education. Advocating the “one school, one nurse” policy, the School of Nursing suggests government departments to collaborate in empowering school nurses with the leadership role in implementing school health policies. In relation, the School of Nursing hosted the 16th Biennial School Nurses International Conference in Hong Kong from 25 to 29 July 2011. Themed “The Role of School Nurse: Globalization, Policy Formulation and Evidence-based Practice”, the event has attracted the participation of over 300 local and international health care professionals and scholars.
