The research team led by Prof. Li Yi, Professor of PolyU’s Institute of Textiles and Clothing (ITC), funded by the Innovation and Technology Commission through the Hong Kong Research Institute of Textiles and Apparel, have dedicated efforts in the research of high-performance sportswear. Based on a comprehensive study on fabric functions, different kinds of fabric are applied on different parts of the garment to help control body temperature, reduce wind resistance and increase speed of athletes.

ITC is now staging an exhibition entitled “The Brilliance of Olympic and Sportswear Innovation” at PolyU. The latest development of science and technology innovation on sportswear will be illustrated by exhibiting 15 sets of high-performance sportswear designed by the team. The sportswear has been developed for enhancing the performance of Hong Kong elite athletes in training and competitions including 2008 Beijing Olympics, 2009 East Asian Games and 2012 London Olympics.
