PolyU celebrates 18th Congregation and sets sight on sustainability |
This year, PolyU sent forth 10,723 graduates. The University’s 18th Congregation was held on campus on 27 October. Presiding over the occasion were Council Chairman Ms Marjorie Yang and President Prof. Timothy W. Tong. During the Congregation, the University conferred honorary doctorates upon four prominent figures, namely, Prof. Chung K. Law, Robert H. Goddard Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Princeton University; Prof. Harry Lee, Chairman of TAL Group; Prof. Xie Heping, President of Sichuan University; and Mr George Yong-Boon Yeo, Vice Chairman of Kerry Group. Addressing the Congregation, Prof. Tong said, “To answer to the call of our times, we have included ‘sustainability’ as a priority strategic focus for the development of the University.” “We are committed to promoting environmental, economic and social sustainability through technological breakthroughs and collaborations with business and industry partners.
