PolyU academics honoured with national research awards

 

 

 

 

 

PolyU researchers won five awards in the Ministry of Education’s Higher Education Outstanding Scientific Research Output Awards (Science and Technology) 2013. Winning a second-class award in the Natural Science category is a project on fluorescent biosensor and probing technology conducted by Prof. Wong Kwok-yin, Dean of Faculty of Applied Science and Textiles; Prof. Thomas Leung Yun-chung of Department of Applied Biology and Chemical Technology (ABCT); and Dr Chan Pak-ho, Associate Director of PolyU’s Food Safety and Technology Research Centre (FSTRC).

In collaboration with other universities and institutions on research projects, the following academics are also awarded.

  • Prof. Ding Xiao-li, Head of Department of Land Surveying and Geo-Informatics, is awarded a first-class award in Natural Science with the project “Atmospheric effects on interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR)”
  • Dr Wong Man-sau, Associate Professor of ABCT and Deputy Director of FSTRC, is awarded a second-class award in Scientific and Technological Progress (Promotion Category) with the project “Scientific studies of traditional Chinese medicine on anti-osteoporosis and its applications”
  • Prof. Li Zhilin, Chair Professor of Department of Land Surveying and Geo-Informatics, is awarded a second-class award in Natural Science with the project “Modeling of geographic spatial relations: Theory and methodology”
  • Dr Andrew W. H. Ip, Associate Professor of Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering, is awarded a second-class award in Natural Science with the project “Complex manufacturing systems operation: Decision process and optimization”
