Following the reprioritization of programme choices by JUPAS applicants after the announcement of HKALE results, it is noted that PolyU’s programmes continued to gain popularity among the applicants. After the deadline for reprioritization on 3 July, PolyU’s top five programmes with most students putting them as Band A choice are: nursing, design, social policy and administration, accounting, textiles and clothing. The competition is fiercest for the BA (Hons) in Social Policy and Administration programme, with 26 students competing for one place.
In early July, PolyU also announced the admission of Chinese mainland students for the year 2009/10. The University has admitted 247 mainland students who will start their one-year foundation study in the coming academic year. This year, PolyU received about 3,600 applications, among them, 87 per cent have met the entrance requirements of state key universities. The majority of the applications came from Beijing, Guangdong and Shanghai. The most popular programmes among mainland students include, accounting and finance, accounting, financial services, electronic and information engineering, and hotel management.
