Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) is the process of creating curriculum structures and subject-relevant content focusing on interconnections between economic, social, and environmental factors. It frames the SDGs as a starting point, and integrates UNESCO’s key competencies for sustainability and how they align with the specific learning objectives for different SDGs. The methods of assessment likewise align with the learning objectives and competencies and with teaching and learning practices. ESD supports learner-centered, action-oriented, transformative pedagogy. The learning design toolkit provides a pedagogic method of embedding ESD in the curriculum.
