Engineering Club ranked 5th in 2018 International MATE ROV Competition

21 Jun 2018

The 2018 International MATE ROV Competition was held in the State of Washington State, USA. 65 teams from around the world participated in the event competing for the championships in the Explorer Class ROV and Ranger Class ROV. Twelve students from EE participated in the Explorer Class competition and it is the third time that our team took part in the international competition. With the support from other Engineering Club members and months of hard work, a new ROV was successfully developed. The new ROV includes 8 thrusters, multiple cameras, robotic arm, airbag releasing system and control software.

The 3-day competition took place in the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center from 21 to 23 June, 2018. Each team must present their design to a panel of judges, submit a technical report and demonstrate their ROVs by carrying a sequence of tasks. The EE team was ranked 5th in the final score.

We would like to congratulate the team and all its members in achieving such good results. The Department also want to express our gratitude to HongKong Airlines for sponsoring students’ air tickets.
