Biography
Dr Yingtong Lai is a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Applied Social Sciences at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. She received her PhD in Sociology from The Chinese University of Hong Kong. Before joining PolyU, she worked as a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Sociology at The University of Hong Kong.
Yingtong’s research areas include migration and immigration, work and inequalities, and urban sociology. Her primary research interest lies in a dialogue of how the workplace environment and immigration policies shape the integration and well-being of migrant workers in the receiving societies, based on the case of foreign domestic workers in Hong Kong. She is also interested in the migration from more developed to less developed areas, which is a growing major migration trend globally, in the context of the Greater Bay Area in China. Using large-scale survey data and quantitative approaches, her research have been published in renowned international journals including Population, Space and Place, Asian Population Studies, and American Behavioral Scientist.
