Mr Lap Keung LAW
羅立強先生
Assistant Director/Planning and Services, Hong Kong Marine Department, HKSAR Government
Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Shipping Technology and Management (1998)
After graduating in 1998, Mr Law joined Orient Overseas Container Line Co., Ltd. Within ten years, he had worked his way up from deck cadet to master mariner, the highest grade of seafarer qualification. Driven by a passion for public service, sustainable port and shipping development, and to contribute to the country, Mr Law made the decision to join the Marine Department. Over the next 15 years, he was promoted from Marine Officer to Assistant Director, overseeing numerous large-scale projects and port operations, and formulating several new plans for port optimization, personnel training, and further education.
During the recent pandemic, Mr Law closely monitored the movement of multiple waterways, coordinated the operation of several ports, and oversaw epidemic prevention measures and materials supply at different terminals. Thanks to his efforts, Hong Kong was able to resume the supply of daily necessities such as vegetables and meat within a short period of time.
Mr Law continues to work on various aspects of port facilities, safety, and management. His work—which involves people, machines, materials, and law—ultimately aims for the sustainable development of the maritime industry.
Mr Law has a deep connection to PolyU. He has returned to his alma mater several times to help promote the Department of Logistics and Maritime Studies (LMS), where he has participated in events introducing job opportunities in the shipping industry. He hopes that all LMS students will excel in the shipping industry after graduation and create a better future and life.
