Dr Shang Songmin awarded the International Association of Advanced Materials Medal – 2016 by the International Association of Advanced Materials (IAAM) at the American Graphene Forum, American Advanced Materials Congress 2016 in Miami, USA in December 2016. This award recognizes the contributions of Dr Shang to the field of material science.

Dr Shang has pioneered research work on the dispersion of graphene in composites. He has also carried out a number of research work on the synthesis of graphene nanocomposites and explored their applications. As the corresponding author, Dr Shang has published two highly cited papers on graphene nanocomposites with citation numbers up to 300 and 200 respectively (Google Scholar), and one of them is also listed as a highly cited paper in materials science on the Web of ScienceTM.

Dr Shang has published more than 200 papers on materials science and engineering technology of which about 90 are SCI articles and more than 40 have impact factors above 3. They have been cited about 2000 times. His H-index is 20 and 23 on the Web of Science and Google Scholar respectively. Dr Shang has also been granted four China patents.

Dr Shang is the recipient of many prestigious awards, such as Gold Medal and Special Prize at the Eureka INNOVA 2009 in Brussels, Belgium; Early Career Award 2012/2013 from the UGC Research Grants Council of Hong Kong; PolyU PTeC’s Outstanding Professional Services Awards 2012 – Most Valued Project Award; and two Bronze Medals at the 44th International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva in Switzerland in April 2016.

IAAM is a principle international organization of Advanced Materials Researchers, whose purpose is to provide a research and education forum for the rapidly expending field of Advanced Materials. The International Association of Advanced Materials Medal is honored during the congress by the IAAM for notable and outstanding research in Materials Science and Technology. The award comprises a citation and a medal.
