Dr Ng Tat-lun Memorial Scholarship Presentation Ceremony 2016/17 was held on 9 Nov 2016 to honour 16 students, two from each of the eight Faculties of PolyU, for their outstanding academic achievement.
"Dr Ng Tat-lun Memorial Scholarship" was set up in 2013 to pay tribute to the late Deputy Council Chairman and Distinguished Alumnus Ir Dr Ng Tat-lun, for his tremendous contributions to the development of the University as well as his passion for lifelong learning.
The Presentation Ceremony was officiated by Mrs Millen Ng and Ms Irene Ng, wife and daughter of Dr Ng Tat-lun, Professor Timothy W. Tong, PolyU President and Dr Patrick S.C. Poon, Chairman of the PolyU Foundation. Members of the Governing Committee of the PolyU Foundation, PolyU staff members, students and parents also attended the ceremony to congratulate the scholarship recipients.
Addressing the Ceremony, Professor Tong thanked Ms Irene Ng for her recent donation and said, "Dr Ng had a good sense of humour, he always treated others with the utmost respect and honesty and was determined to serve the community. He had a long affiliation with PolyU over the past fifty years, from student to Council member. He was also the founder of the Federation of PolyU Alumni Associations. Not only had he witnessed the growth of our University, but also made significant contribution to its advancement. With his enthusiasm in pursuing knowledge and his love for our University, he has set a role model for us."
In her speech, Ms Irene Ng thanked PolyU again for giving her late father the chance to learn and give back and to fulfill his belief of "Knowledge Changes Fate". Ms Ng called on the scholarship recipients to pay more attention to the people and things around, no matter big or small, and learn from them, to care for and to establish closer ties with other people.
