Laboratory Safety Day 2019

Health, Safety & Environment Office (HSEO) endeavors to promote health and safety on campus and to raise awareness among staff and students of the importance of safety on campus.

Every year, HSEO organizes an one-day safety promotion on specific safety topic.  This year, “Laboratory Safety Day” to be held to enhance the safety knowledge of laboratory users in terms of hazards and risk management in laboratories.

PolyU Laboratory Safety Day is on 29 March 2019 (Friday).  HSEO is now inviting your participation / enrollment to the following events:

1) Laboratory Safety Seminar (morning)

Date: 29 March 2019 (Friday)

Time: 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Venue: Room Y301, 3/F, Lee Shau Kee Building

2) “Be a Laboratory Inspector” Competition

Date: 29 March 2019 (Friday)

Time – three sessions:

• Session 1: 1:00 – 2:00 p.m.
• Session 2: 2:00 – 3:00 p.m.
• Session 3: 3:00 – 4:00 p.m.

Venue: Room GH712, 7/F, Wing GH

Remarks: Certificate will be issued for participants.

About the Competition

1. This competition is open to all PolyU staff and students (both full-time and part-time).
2. Each team must have a minimum of 2 members (a maximum of 3), including one team leader, one or two members.
3. Change of members is not allowed after submission of application form.
4. Each team will have 10 minutes to conduct the inspection, followed by inspection form completion in 30 minutes.

Team Prize

1. Best three teams to be selected.
2. Each winning team will receive a certificate plus voucher worth HK$500.

Judging Panel

1. Composition of judging panel:

   - Head, Health Safety & Environment (HSE)  

   - Senior Health, Safety and Environment Manager

   - Laboratory and Research Safety Manager

   - Technician of HSEO

2. The composition of the judging panel may change without prior notice.

3. The judging panel may decide not to make any award.

4. The judging panel members shall be chosen by Head (HSE) and Head (HSE) shall have the final decision.

Judging Criteria

1. Answer on inspection report will be assessed and considered.

1. Pick your preferred session HERE for enrollment.
2. Fill in the name and personal information of team leader. Members’ names and staff/student ID should be filled in “remarks” column.
3. Successful enrolled teams will be informed by confirmation email for details.

Visit https://polyu.hk/KNesK to answer the questions from today to 25 March 2019 noon.

10 participants (5 staff members & 5 students) with highest marks will be the winners to be awarded voucher worth HK$500.  For participants with the same mark, winner(s) will be drawn among the participants with same marks.
