On 16 September 2024 afternoon, 15 persons had joined the technical visit to Aviation Education Path. We started with group photo at the entrance of Aviation Education Path.
At the entrance floor, there is a layout of the airport. The staff introduced to us different locations of the airport including HAECO that we had visited in the morning section. The staff told us that each runway is equipped with one fire station to keep the airport at the highest fire safety standard. If the fire station is required to support another runway, the fire safety standard of that runway will be downgraded.
The staff then showed us the model of Civil Aviation Department and its responsibility including provision of traffic control services, certification of Hong Kong registered aircraft, compliance with Bilateral Air Service Agreements, the regulation of general civil aviation activities and overseeing the safety of the airport.
There was an airplane show booth showing different model airplane. We were told that the plane number could show the airplane registration location.
After that we were given two videos showing flight landing and departing to understand what would be said during landing and departing. The marking on the runway indicates the direction for landing or departing.
Walking through the corridor, we could see an airplane control panel. The staff has showed us how to control the engine control, the yoke for turning right or left and setting the level of the plane and the use of radar.
The air traffic control in Hong Kong is divided into different control zones operating in different frequencies and each zone is assigned with a designed air traffic controller. The airplanes include arrival airplanes, departure airplanes and passing through airplanes, ensuring them operating at the safety distance.
We then went into air traffic control rooms where we could see with the help of AI, flights are labeled with the flight number, how the flights are managed during flight arrival even at low vision conditions.
The event ended at around 3:30pm, everyone had a good experience in this Aviation Education Path.
