Towngas Hall of Innovation was opened in 2015 to showcase original concepts developed by colleagues. Each concept has enhanced the service and efficiency of Towngas, covering all aspects of gas works. Also, Towngas has been researching and developing the use of hydrogen as a fuel for transportation and other applications. Visitors to the Hall of Future Energy can learn about the benefits of hydrogen as a fuel source and how it can help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve air quality.

On 17 Feb 2025, we had a technical visit to Towngas (Hall of Future Energy and Hall of Innovation). We have 11 alumni and 1 student joined this event. We started the visit at 2pm with an interesting story about Towngas. It established in 1862 with its business in gas street lighting. With the invention of electricity, it then diversified its business into city gas, telecom, water, new energy, manufacturing and smart energy. It had shown us how a company had changed to meet the challenges and opportunities. Towngas has been focusing on “G=i*i” that means growth through innovation by implementation. It has shown us various programs to encourage innovation.

We took group photos and presented souvenirs to Towngas at the Hall of Future Energy. 

The Hall of Future Energy is mainly focus on using hydrogen as new energy, it can reduce a lot of CO2 emission. 

There was a photo showing the creation of hydrogen through solar power, wind power, chemical plant and sulfur removal and the use of hydrogen for vessels, power plants, stream and hot water and cooling systems.

The Hall of Innovation is a showcase for the innovation developed by Towngas and as a location to recognize those people who had made the innovation.

One of the innovative products is a gas meter equipped with a microcontroller and sensor to detect gas leakage. Three cases will turn off gas supply:

1. Continuously very low gas flow for 24 hours, normally a small hole in gas tube causing leakage. 
2. Suddenly very high gas flows, normally gas tubes loose out, it will stop immediately.
3. Very long time Towngas unable to arrange onsite checking, it will stop the gas supply for safety, the customer will contact Towngas and thus can arrange onsite checking.

The event ended at 4:00pm with half an hour overrun, participants had got great insight during the visit.
