Professor Hon joined has been involved with research in Manufacturing Technology and Manufacturing Systems since 1974 at Birmingham, Bath and Dundee Universities.  He has rich experience in directing and managing large-scale projects.  Presently, he is a co-investigator of a £5.2 M project on Virtual Engineering Centre of which he is the leader of Work Package 2 on ‘Virtual Assembly and Manufacturing’. Professor Hon has published more than 100 scientific papers, holds 2 patents and the editor of two books on design and manufacture for sustainable development.  He is a member of the EPSRC Design and Manufacturing College, and served on the Technology Foresight Manufacturing, Production and Business Panel as well as the Technology Strategy Board. Professor Hon is currently on the Editorial Board of 4 international journals and he has given 8 keynote papers in international conferences since 1995.  Apart from the UK, he serves as an international research assessor/reviewer to Australia, Belgium, Hungary, Malta and Switzerland national funding bodies.  He was elected as a Fellow of the International Academy for Production Engineering (CIRP) in 2001 representing the UK.
