Be careful! Ransomware is attacking us from all angles.
Network-attached storage (NAS) devices are widely used by individuals and departments. We know it is convenient for file sharing, storage and backups, however, the number of Ransomware that specifically targeting NAS devices appears to be on the rise. Even if no internet access is allowed to your NAS, it is never safe if no preventative measures have been taken.
The following tips are recommended to secure your NAS from ransomware:
- Check and apply patches, firmware and OS updates in NAS regularly
- Change the default administrator username to a creative one and use a complex but memorable password
- Restrict internet access to your NAS by
- Limit to specific IP addresses
- Disable remote connectivity
- Allow external access with VPN only
- Only open the necessary ports
- Auto block IP Addresses with many failed Login attempts
