Adoption of research outcomes to pipe robot ITF and consultancy projects:
Researches in System Miniaturization – The sizes of space instruments are always limited. Research in integrating the skin of the space instrument with the core mechanisms in order to reduce its dimensions and increase its strength is often of priority. This knowledge can also be very useful in industrial and consumer products such as the pipe robots for moving in the confined space inside a water pipe.
Patent:
‘IN-PIPE ROBOT AND SYSTEM’ China Patent CN111623192B.
‘Systems and Methods for Robotic Inside Water Pipe Navigation’ US Provisional patent (filed), Application number: US 62/811,522.

The Water Supplies Department (WSD) contracted and partnered with the Precision Robotics Laboratory to develop robots for water main inspection and repair. WSD has participated and introduced the pipe robots developed by the consultancy project at InnoCarnival and TechConnect.

Adoption of research outcomes to 3D Fireman locating system project:
The knowledge from the research on building location network on Moon and research on transmission, communication and positioning system in supporting space instruments for planet missions is useful in the feasibility study of creating networking and locating functions for the positioning system.

The Fire Service Department has partnered with the Precisions Robotics Laboratory to develop a positioning system to map and track the locations of firefighters at incident sites, in particular multi-storey buildings during fires.
