Led by Prof Li Xiangdong, Director of Research Institute for Sustainable Urban Development (RISUD), the research project titled “Unravelling the Black Box between Air Pollution and Public Health for Transformative Air Quality Management’’ is supported by the Research Grants Council (RGC) for the Theme-based Research Scheme 2022/23 (12th Round). The longstanding impact goal of this project is to provide policymakers, organisations, and practitioners with more effective and targeted control measures to mitigate the health effects/burden of air PM2.5 pollution.

PolyU InnoTech Open Day showcases the University's contributions to I&T development via world-class education, interdisciplinary research, knowledge transfer and entrepreneurship

PolyU held the PolyUI nnoTechOpen Day on 16 July on campus to showcase the University’s latest endeavours in education, interdisciplinary research,  knowledge transfer and entrepreneurship which are helping to empower the I&T development of Hong Kong, the GBA and beyond. PAIR was jointly inaugurated by officiating guests, 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟. 𝐒𝐮𝐧 𝐃𝐨𝐧𝐠, Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry of the HKSAR Government, 𝐌𝐬 𝐑𝐞𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐜𝐚 𝐏𝐮𝐧, Commissioner for Innovation and Technology of the HKSAR Government, 𝐃𝐫 𝐋𝐚𝐦 𝐓𝐚𝐢-𝐟𝐚𝐢, PolyU Council Chairman, 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟. 𝐓𝐞𝐧𝐠 𝐉𝐢𝐧-𝐠𝐮𝐚𝐧𝐠, President of PolyU, 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟. 𝐖𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐖𝐢𝐧𝐠-𝐭𝐚𝐤, Deputy President and Provost of PolyU, 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟. 𝐂𝐡𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐩𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐨, Vice President (Research and Innovation) of PolyU, 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟. The Inauguration Ceremony was followed by the Award Presentations of PolyU President's Award for Outstanding Achievement in Knowledge Transfer and PolyU Young Innovative Research Award (YIRA). PAIR's so proud that eight out of ten projects received the KT award were members and teams from our constituent research units while one of the awardees of YIRA was our member as well. PolyU launches PAIR, the largest interdisciplinary research platform in Hong Kong and GBA, to advance the development of an international innovation hub

PolyU has established the PolyU Academy for Interdisciplinary Research (PAIR), the largest research platform of its kind in Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area (GBA), to foster interdisciplinary research, partnership with world-renowned scholars, and transfer of technologies to stakeholders.   Comprising 16 research institutes and centres with over 450 highly qualified PolyU senior researchers from all over the world, PAIR focuses on research in frontier areas such as advanced manufacturing, artificial intelligence of things, carbon neutrality, Chinese medicine, deep space explorations, food technologies, intelligent wearable systems, mental health, photonics technologies, smart ageing, smart cities, smart energy, sports science, sustainable urban development, vision science, and many more. RISE Member Elected as a New Fellow of Canadian Academy of Engineering

Prof. Chen Guohua, Member of the Otto Poon Charitable Foundation Research Institute for Smart Energy (RISE), has been inducted into the Canadian Academy of Engineering (CAE). Prof. Chen is among 54 new Fellows elected into the academy this year. Election to the Canadian Academy of Engineering is one of the highest honours in engineering. PolyU collaborates with Increasepharm (HK) Limited for CM-based new drug development

PolyU received generous support of HK $10 million from Increasepharm (HK) Limited to establish the PolyU – Increasepharm Joint Research Laboratory for New Drug Development (“The Joint Laboratory”). A signing ceremony was held on 15 June 2022 via hybrid mode. During the ceremony, Prof. Zhang Baoxian, Chairman of Beijing Increasepharm Corporation Limited stated that The Joint Laboratory would capitalise on the opportunities brought by the country’s development, further extend the strategic partnership towards the Greater Bay Area (GBA) and conduct cutting-edge collaborative researches on developing nanomedicine and aerosolized medications for treating ocular diseases and osteoporosis. The Joint Laboratory is under the PolyU Research Centre for Chinese Medicine Innovation (RCMI). Prof. Wong Man-sau, Director of RCMI, expressed her gratitude to Prof. Zhang and said, “The establishment of The Joint Laboratory would strengthen the current collaborative researches on osteoporosis drug development. On one hand, it would leverage the advantages of Increasepharm in synthetic chemistry and industrialisation of new drugs, making the pathway for the industrialisation of PolyU’s pharmaceutical research results. The Joint Laboratory would be committed to developing a series of herbal-based small-molecule drug, including innovative drugs for treatment of dementia and prevention of cognitive decline; On the other hand, it would explore and deliver innovative drugs for the treatment of ophthalmic diseases with the Novel Drug Delivery System. The Joint Laboratory would not only complement each other’s research strengths and technological capabilities but also provide a training base to all parties concerned.”
