Summary

Glass windows/facades have been widely applied in contemporary buildings. Meanwhile, severe damage to glass windows/facades has been witnessed in extreme events, especially in typhoon, blast, and so on. To mitigate the wind/blast induced damage, it’s crucial to understand the mechanical behaviour of glass windows/facades. This presentation will address research progress of Prof. Suwen CHEN and her group on the following aspects: 1) temperature and strain rate dependent mechanical properties of facade materials, including glass, interlayers and silicone adhesive; 2) interfacial adhesion and post-fracture behaviour of PVB/SG laminated glass panels; 3) response characteristics and failure mode of typical glass facades in blast; 4) pressure-impulse diagrams for damage prediction of typical glass facades. Latest research progress on deep learning-based blast load prediction will also be briefly introduced. At the end, possible collaboration topics will be discussed.
