RCSV congratulated Dr Tommy Wei, RCSV Member; Associate Professor of Department of Building Environment and Energy Engineering, PolyU on receiving a total amount of RMB2 million from the Excellent Young Scientists Fund (Hong Kong and Macao) 2022, one of the key funding schemes of National Nature Science Foundation of China.
Dr Wei’s research mainly focuses on fundamental colour science, and the research outcomes have contributed to the further understanding of human visual system and mechanisms, in order to investigate and improve the quality of lighting and imaging systems.
The awarded project, titled “Colour Appearance Model and Colour Space”, aims to investigate colour appearance and difference under complicated conditions. The research findings can be used for various imaging systems, such as cameras, smartphones, drones and metaverse-related systems, which will be of great scientific and practical importance for colour science and industry.
The Excellent Young Scientists Fund granted annually to support young male scientists under age 38 and young female scientists under age 40 who have attained outstanding achievements in basic research to pursue innovative research in self-chosen areas and foster them to be internationally leading scholars. This prestigious fund is highly competitive, only 25 projects in total were funded across Hong Kong and Macau this year.
