The SHARP structure describes the interdisciplinary and experimental approaches through which members can contribute according to their expertise and work across teams that tackle different vision problems. This structure serves the following functions:
- The five themes form an ecosystem, nurturing and supporting interdisciplinary research
- A platform for PhD students from different disciplines to work on vision sciences & vision-related engineering, supervised by relevant experts irrespective of their home departments
- A platform for PolyU researchers from different disciplines as well as visiting researchers to collaborate to solve vision-related problems
- Enhancing access to concepts and technologies not traditionally associated with vision science
