The exact credits required for each AD/HD holder depends on the approved credits transferred. Students not meeting the equivalent standard of the undergraduate degree Language and Communication Requirements (LCR), based on their previous studies in AD/HD programmes and their academic performance, will be required to take additional credits (6 credits in English and 3 credits in Chinese) on top of the required credits.

Aims and Characteristics
Aims
The general aim of the programme is to train competent professionals for the fashion business in textiles, apparel, retailing, design and related organisations. These professionals will play an active role in the development of the global fashion and textiles industry in local and overseas markets. In addition to their professional competencies, the programme will also cultivate students’ other essential competencies, such as entrepreneurship, social media marketing, and business analytics, expanding graduates’ skillsets for today’s business environment. They will possess personal excellence in leadership, teamwork, healthy lifestyle and lifelong learning; they will become trend leader, innovator, critical thinker and creative problem solvers; they will gain effective communication and interpersonal skills, and have high proficiency in biliteracy and trilingualism; and will become educated global and ethical leaders, promote social and national responsibility, engage in local and international affairs, acts as responsible global citizen, and exhibit cultural and aesthetic appreciation with global perspective.
Characteristics
Based on desired careers and academic performance, students can pursue studies in one of the following five specialisms under the BA (Hons) Scheme:
- Design
- Knitwear Design and Technology
- Retailing and Marketing
- Intimate Apparel and Activewear
- Technology
There are also opportunities for placements in the industry to gain on-the-job knowledge and experience in the workplace.
5 Specialisms
Students admitted to the senior year of the 4-year degree programme must specialise in one of the following specialisms under our BA Scheme:
- Design
- Knitwear Design and Technology
- Retail and Marketing
- Intimate Apparel and Activewear
- Technology
Final Year Project Requirement (for all specialisms)
- Professional Language Skills and Project Preparation (by Thesis/Collection) (4 credits)
- Final Year Project (by Thesis/Collection) (5 credits)
Work-integrated Education (WIE)
As a graduation requirement, every student must complete a minimum of 3 weeks or 120 hours of Work-integrated Education (WIE) in an organizational context relevant to their future profession in the garment and textiles industry. This mandatory training must be completed before graduation. More information can be found from the Careers and Placement Section of the Student Affairs Office.
General University Requirement (GUR) Subjects
- Language and Communication Requirements (LCR) (9 credits) - Students not meeting the equivalent standard of the undergraduate degree LCR, based on their previous studies in AD/HD programmes and their academic performance, will be required to take additional credits (6 credits in English and 3 credits in Chinese) on top of the required credits.
- Cluster-Area Requirements (CAR) (6 credits) - Students are required to successfully complete two subjects (i.e. 6 credits) in any of the following four Cluster Areas (two CAR subjects cannot be from the same Cluster Area):
- Human Nature, Relations and Development (HRD)
- Community, Organisation and Globalisation (COG)
- History, Culture and World Views (HCW)
- Science, Technology and Environment (STE)
By taking CAR subjects, students must fulfil the following three additional requirements:
- English Reading and Writing (ER/EW) Requirements
- Chinese Reading and Writing (CR/CW) Requirements
- China Studies Requirement (CSR)
- Service Learning Subject (3 credits)
Graduates with 2 years of relevant post-qualification experience can apply for Associateship of the Textile Institute in the UK (ATI).
Graduates can also apply for Graduate Membership of the Hong Kong Institution of Textile and Apparel (GHKITA).
Graduates have career opportunities in the fashion and textile industries, and related fields. These include:
- fashion and textile design;
- knitwear design;
- product development;
- pattern making;
- fitting;
- marketing/sales management;
- buying/merchandising;
- fashion retailing;
- social media analytics;
- luxury brand management;
- global fashion management;
- manufacturing/production; and
- quality and colour control.
An Associate Degree or a Higher Diploma in Fashion and Textile Studies, or the equivalent.
Applicants may be invited to attend a written test and/or an interview to ascertain their suitability for the programme.

Supplementary form is not required. Applicants will be invited via email to complete an online form with your application ID to declare your intended choices of Specialism in due course.
