Data Management System

Background

UBSN DMS is a complete solution for researchers to manage their research outputs. After conducting research in one of UBSN's facilities, users will be able to upload the data to an online platform that is easily accessible and secure. Users can download their data to their local computers or choose to use one of our remote services for processing data online.

UBSN DMS is composed of two components, including:

The UBSN Data Archive for storing of data captured using our UBSN facilities, and
The UBSN Data Processing Platform Service for processing data online.

UBSN Data Archive

The UBSN Data Archive serves to facilitate cross-modal experiments and multi-disciplinary research. It is based on a customized version of the popular open source imaging informatics software, namely the Extensible Neuroimaging Archive Toolkit (XNAT). XNAT was originally developed by the Neuroinformatics Research Group at Washington University (Marcus et al. 2007). It provides the following functions:

Uploading of research data
Organizing and sharing data
Viewing and downloading data
Securing and managing access to data
Searching and exploring large data set
Running complex processing on data using high-powered computing

UBSN Data Processing Platform

The UBSN Data Processing Platform allows PolyU’s researchers, including staff and students, to analyse their data online for research purpose.

Normal users is recommended to use the Universal Desktop Service (UDS) in Windows or Linux.

Advanced users with programming experience may opt to use the High Performance Computing with Graphical Processing Units (HPC-GPU).
