King's Flair Innovative Technology Centre of PolyU Faculty of Business has been established with a significant donation from Dr Alex Wong, outstanding alumnus and University Fellow of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU), and Chairman and CEO of King's Flair International (Holdings) Limited. The Centre, tapping into the network, expertise and experience of King’s Flair, is expected to play an important role in facilitating the Faculty of Business in further bridging academia and industry as well as fostering communication and collaboration among researchers, industrialists, and scholars around the world. It will also facilitate the transfer of knowledge and technology, turning innovations into practical applications for the benefit of industry and society.
During the launch ceremony on 21 July 2021, PolyU President Professor Jin-Guang Teng said that the University “has always attached great importance to making a positive impact on society” through world-class education and research. He gratefully thanked Dr Wong for supporting the University on its journey of advancing knowledge and the frontiers of technology.
Professor Edwin Cheng, Faculty Dean and DBA thesis supervisor, expressed appreciation and thanks for Wong's “devotion to promote innovation and fulfil societal needs” together with the Faculty. He remarked that apart from supporting Faculty events, Wong has been mentoring PolyU students and enriching their understanding of market needs and industry demands.
Wong was first connected to the Hong Kong Polytechnic in the 1970s when he studied mechanics. He is currently Honorary Life Chairman of the PolyU Foundation and advisor to the Department of Mechanical Engineering. He feels an obligation to give back to his alma mater, especially by building a platform for scientific research and the nurture of talent. His support to PolyU has also been motivated by a desire to make Hong Kong a shining star in his home country, he explained.
King's Flair, listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, is a designer, developer, supplier and distributor of an extensive assortment of kitchenware products. Headquartered in Hong Kong, its business supplies the high-end global kitchenware market with international brand-owning customers in North America, Europe and Asia.
