Dr Shuowen Zhang, Department of Electronic and Information Engineering has been selected as the sole winner of the Paul Baran Young Scholar Award 2021 by The Marconi Society for recognizing her work in intelligent reflecting surface-aided communications, MIMO, and unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) communications! The Marconi Society was established in 1974 to commemorate the centennial of the birth of Guglielmo Marconi, who was recognized as the father of wireless communication and won the 1909 Nobel Prize in Physics with Karl Ferdinand Braun in recognition of their contributions to the development of wireless telegraphy. The Paul Baran Young Scholar Award honors the world's most innovative young engineers in Information and Communications Technology (ICT). Presented to researchers who are 27 years old or younger to commemorate Guglielmo Marconi's age when he made his first successful wireless transmission, this award recognizes brilliant young scientists and engineers who are leaders in the fields of advanced communications and information technology.
