Presentation of a Recent Study on Metaphors and Gender in Media at the Sixth International Conference on Linguistics and Language Studies (ICLLS 2024)

Research & Scholarly Activities

Dr Yanlin Li, Postdoctoral Fellow from the Department of English and Communication, presented a study co-authored with Prof. Kathleen Ahrens at the Sixth International Conference on Linguistics and Language Studies (ICLLS 2024), held on 21 – 22 June 2024. Their study, entitled “Unveiling Metaphors and Gender in Media: Shaping Perceptions of Entrepreneurial Leadership in Interviews,” explores how female and male entrepreneurs demonstrate leadership through metaphorical language. By analysing metaphors used in social media interviews, their research identifies key differences in the source domains associated with entrepreneurial leadership. The study enhances understanding of positive language for leadership in business communication and provides guidance on effective communication strategies for entrepreneurs.
