Opening Ceremony of the Research Centre for Chinese History and Culture

PolyU held the Opening Ceremony of the Research Centre for Chinese History and Culture on 17 January 2023. The ceremony was officiated by Mr Kevin Yeung Yun-hung, Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism (3rd from left), and Mr Zhang Guoyi, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Publicity, Cultural and Sports Affairs of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government (3rd from right). They were joined by Dr Lam Tai-fai, Council Chairman of PolyU (2nd from left); Prof. Jin-Guang Teng, PolyU’s President (2nd from right); Prof. Wing-tak Wong, Deputy President and Provost (1st from left); and Prof. Li Ping, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities (1st from right).

PolyU is honoured to have a distinguished panel of advisors for the Research Centre, composed of top historians and leading advocates of cultural development, including Dr Louis Ng (rear, 4th from left), Dr Chan Man-hung (rear, 2nd from left), Prof. Joseph Ting Sun-pao (rear, 1st from left), Prof. Cheng Pei-kai (rear, 4th from right), and Prof. Elizabeth Sinn (rear, 3rd from left). Together with the Advisory Committee Chairman Dr Lam Tai-fai (front, 3rd from left), they will offer guidance and recommendation on the development of the Research Centre. Scholars from the Department of Chinese Culture, including Prof. CHU Hung-lam, Chair Professor of Chinese Culture (rear, 3rd from right); Prof. HAN Xiaorong, Head of Department (rear, 2nd from right); and Dr TSUI Kai-hin Brian, Associate Head of Department (rear, 1st from right), will participate in the Research Centre’s projects.

The Research Centre signed a MoU with the Institute of Humanities of Tsinghua University on 17 January 2023. Dr Lam Tai-fai said that in establishing the Research Centre and collaborating with Tsinghua University, PolyU aims to promote Chinese culture, strengthen national education, and enhance the pride of local youth and their identification with and sense of belonging to the Nation.

They were joined by Dr Lam Tai-fai, Council Chairman of PolyU, Prof. Jin-Guang Teng, President, Prof. Wing-tak Wong, Deputy President and Provost and Prof. Li Ping, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities.

The Research Centre aspires to become an influential academic institution in humanities, endeavours to support the Hong Kong SAR Government’s efforts in promoting Chinese culture. Read more
