AI-powered Video Interviewing: Impact on the Teaching and Learning of Professional English
Research & Scholarly Activities
The project, co-led by Anna Ho and Grace Lim of the English Language Centre, aims to enhance students’ language and communication competencies through automated video interviews provided by the Neufast system, thereby increasing their competitiveness in the graduate hiring process.
A pilot study was carried out in 2022-2023 and the AI platform was fully implemented in the first semester of the 23-24 academic year. The AI interview has been successfully integrated into the syllabus of three workplace related subjects in the Faculty of Business, Faculty of Construction and Environment, and School of Hotel and Tourism Management. It is also offered as an optional practice for final year nursing students. To date, approximately 700 students have utilised the platform for job interview practice, with involvement from 24 teachers.
Feedback from students on the AI interview practice has been very positive, with many reporting gains in confidence, language enhancement, and improved assessment performance. Similarly, the majority of teachers have responded positively. They noted the platform’s benefits in enhancing students’ job application skills, providing valuable insights through the automated report on students’ interview performance, and increasing student engagement in learning job seeking skills.
The platform will be fully implemented again in the second semester of 2023, benefiting around 900 students. Click HERE to learn more about the platform.
