The Effect of L1 Chinese Integrated Writing on L2 English Integrated Writing Performance. 5th Forum on Foreign Linguistics and Applied Linguistics. College of Liberal Arts, Shantou University, Shantou, Guangdong, China, 2 December 2023.
Abstract
Integrated writing is an important skill for students during school studies and future work. We conducted three empirical studies on the relationship between L1 Chinese integrated writing and L2 English integrated writing with Secondary school year 4 and university first year students as the research participants. The findings showed that L1 Chinese integrated writing had a significant direct effect on L2 English integrated writing, and several factors played important positive roles in explaining this relationship, such as L1 and L2 single- and multi-text comprehension, and L1 and L2 writing self-efficacy.
