Public Lecture Series on “New Directions in Premodern Chinese Studies”

Funded by the Sin Wai Kin Chinese Humanities Development Fund, the public lecture series aims to introduce the latest trends in the study of premodern China to audiences both inside and outside academia.
During the first semester of the academic year 2023-24, the Department of Chinese History and Culture successfully held four public lectures delivered by scholars based in Mainland China, Hong Kong, and USA.
The four lectures attracted more than 600 online and offline attendees. Topics covered include “Marginalia and Scholars in Late Imperial China,” “The Poetry of Refugee Scholar-Official Chen Yuyi (1090-1139),” “Monks, Merchants, and Exchange between China and Japan, 839-1403,” and “The Invention of Buddhist Poetry in Late Medieval China.”
