Prof. Pauline Li Pei, Professor of the Department of Applied Biology and Chemical Technology, PolyU, and her team have developed the world's first eco-friendly long-lasting antimicrobial coating "Nano En-core" for Yip's Chemical.
The technology behind the product is CareCoatexTM, a biomaterial-based core-shell particles for safe and effective antibacterial and antiviral applications developed by Prof. Li's team. The technology won the Gold Medal in the Special Edition 2021 Inventions Geneva Evaluation Days – Virtual Event.
Nano En-core incorporates food-grade eco-friendly disinfectant Chitosan and a film-forming agent to create a long-lasting antimicrobial coating, to protect surfaces from bacteria and viruses, including COVID-19. The protection is proved to be able to last as long as 180 days.
