PolyU has launched an aquaculture programme with the support from the Sustainable Fisheries Development Fund at the demonstration farm in Tung Lung Chau. From fry breeding to fish pricing, operating strategies and relevant laws, 67 youths will learn everything in the industry from veteran fishermen in this one-year programme.
Dr Kevin Kwok Wing-hin, Assistant Professor at PolyU’s Department of Applied Biology and Chemical Technology who is in charge of the modernised and sustainable mariculture programme, said the instructors of the programme include fishermen with decades of experience. Each student was provided with fries in March, and some of them will be ready for sale next month at the earliest.
