PolyU and financial institution AMTD recently signed a strategic collaboration agreement to establish a Fintech centre under the University’s Faculty of Business for advancing the development of financial technology research and applications in Hong Kong. The signing ceremony was held on 24 January at the AMTD Corporate Office in Davos, Switzerland. President Professor Timothy W. Tong and Ir Professor T. C. Edwin Cheng, Dean of the Faculty of Business, signed the agreement on behalf of PolyU, while Mr Calvin Choi, Chairman and President of AMTD Group Company Limited, and Mr Marcellus Wong, Chairman of AMTD Foundation Limited, signed the agreement on behalf of AMTD.
The Fintech centre aims to enhance Hong Kong’s leading position in innovation and technology development, with a focus on financial technology. It will provide Fintech consultancy services as well as related education and training to students and the public.
At the World Economic Forum (WEF) held in Davos, Switzerland, during the same period, AMTD hosted the “Hong Kong Night”, which was attended by Mrs Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, Chief Executive of the HKSAR Government. President Tong, together with some 300 business leaders from around the world, joined the event. AMTD was a Strategic Partner Associate of WEF and was the only Hong Kong-based company having such partnership with WEF. The Hong Kong Night reinforced Hong Kong’s image as an international financial centre.
