What does it take to develop useful and practical designs for the society? A group of PolyU students from different disciplines answers this question by forming the ‘SD Open Ideas’ to brainstorm on innovative societal projects. They evolve into a community and maintain an open platform to facilitate exchange of design ideas and social discussions. They also meet regularly and run workshops with other social enterprises who share the same passion for eco-awareness and upcycling. Recently they kick-started their first project named Make4all: Sharing Production Experiment. In this project, used plastic bottles are cut into strips and transformed into products with their DIY plastic cutter and their self-built mobile factory.
They have also been to the grand annual art and design event in Germany showcasing their project at Cologne Night of Museums in late October 2016.
