PolyU OSH Excellence Award

PolyU OSH Excellence Award   The PolyU Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Excellence Award aims to give recognition to outstanding employees in promoting work safety culture in the university with achievements in making their workplace safer and healthier. Eligibility The nominee, either an individual or a team, must be serving full-time PolyU staff within the financial year of the award assessment.  The nominee should have at least 12 months of employment service in PolyU. Normal departure from full-time employment after being nominated (e.g. retirement or completion of contract services) will not affect the eligibility.  Previous recipients of the Award can also be nominated for the Award again. The new nomination will be considered based on the achievements attained after the last nomination.  The nominee should prepare the nomination write-up. The nomination must have the endorsement of Head of Unit (HoU). HoU concerned is responsible for endorsing the full contents of the nomination write-up, including the accuracy and correctness of any information and descriptions therein.  Each Unit should not submit more than TWO nominations in each award period.  Nomination and Selection Schedule Nominations for PolyU OSH Excellence Award are invited for submission on or before 30 April 2023. Click HERE for Nomination Form.  Preliminary Screening and Final Judging for the Award will be conducted in May-June 2023.   Selection Criteria The following selection criteria will be adopted. They are indicative and by no means exhaustive.  Overall Award (a) Demonstrate consistent and proactive efforts in hazard identification and risk assessment at workplace and implement effective health and safety measures.   (b) Actively participate occupational health and safety activities organized by the University or activities organized by external bodies such as Labour Department, Occupational Safety and Health Council, Construction Industry Council, etc. (c) Put forward innovative suggestions and deploy technology on improving the safety and health of the working environment, such as occupational safety and health management system, working environment, and designs/schemes. In addition, they should demonstrate their leadership skills to improve the OSH culture of the organization/enterprise, integrate OSH and production effectively, and to perform team spirit. (d) Receive positive feedback for sustainable safety improvement from stakeholders. Consideration will normally focus on the nominee’s achievement and delivered in the nominee’s capacity as staff members of the University; although safety achievement beyond the nominee’s normal work scope may also be given consideration (normally in less weight).  Best Innovation Award To be awarded if the judging panel considers that the nominee could achieve health and safety enhancement through implementation of his own creative ideas. An example would be refinement of work processes with his or her innovative ideas. Best Use of Technology Award To be awarded if the judging panel considers that the nominee could achieve health and safety enhancement through application of technology. The technology may be one which has never been applied in the University or the nominee could apply it in a cost-effective way or with exemplary results. Awards The level, number of award and prize given to individual awardees are as follow: Overall Gold (1) : HK$5,000 Silver (1) : HK$3,000 Bronze (1) : HK$1,000 Thematic Best Use of Technology (1): HK$3,000 Best Innovation (1): HK$3,000 Each awardee will receive a certificate of commendation signed by the President.     A maximum of five nominees will be selected as finalist for award assessment. The bestowal of the award shall subject to individual merits of the candidates. Recipients of overall awards are also eligible for the thematic awards. Awardees would be invited to attend sharing sessions of their achievements. The Health and Safety Committee reserves the right not to grant all Awards in any round of exercise. The awardees may be invited to give a presentation at the Award Presentation Ceremony and to participate in health and safety events to share their knowledge and experience in the following year.   Nomination Form You may download the nomination form by clicking HERE.  Submit the completed form to Health & Safety Office via awards.hso@polyu.edu.hk Panel of Judges Panel of Judges, comprising both internal and external members, will be formed to examine the nominations and assess the nominee’s qualifications and achievements for the awards. Shortlisted nominees would be invited to attend assessment interview. Confidentiality All information submitted on this nomination form will be kept strictly confidential and will only be used by the Panel of Judges for the purpose of the selection process. Before leaving the laboratory, please check the area and ensure: All gas cylinders and gas lines have been shut off and secured; No experiments left unattended; Sashes of fume cupboards have been closed completely; Adequate supply of back-up power, gas(es) and water to critical equipment to avoid interruption; Non-essential equipment have been switched off and unplugged, if possible; and Doors are locked to prevent unauthorized entry to laboratory areas.   Wish you a Healthy and Safe Year of the Rabbit!

Health and Safety Exhibition

7 to 11 November 2022   Health and safety are everyone’s responsibility.  Ensuring a healthy and safe working and learning environment is a duty that all staff and students to share. Health & Safety Office (HSO) works together with all students and staff members to maintain a healthy and safe campus environment.     HSO is organizing a Health and Safety Exhibition on FJ Podium from 7 to 11 November 2022 to share health and safety information, the health and safety works and promotion done on campus with University community.    You are cordially invited to visit the Health and Safety Exhibition and participate the Online Safety Quiz.  Online Safety Quiz:  https://www.polyu.edu.hk/mysurvey2/index.php/658838?lang=en   5 participants, with all answers correct,* will be picked to receive a voucher worth $50.  The Safety Quiz will be closed on 11 November 2022.   Come and Join Us!  See you at the Exhibition.    * If there are more than 5 participants who get all answers correct, 5 winners will be drawn from the said participants.

We-Challenge - Safety Quiz on Health and Safety Poster Series

Work & Wellness Series: Experience Sharing Session - Work Planning & Management | Self-review on Work Stress

Health, Safety & Environment Office organizes two sessions of talks for “Work and Wellness Series” in October and November 2021 respectively to invite guest speakers from different industries and share their views and knowledge on work stress management.  On 19 October 2021, Mr Mew Suppasit JONGCHEVEEVAT (Mew), a famous Thai singer, actor and current PhD student, is invited to share his experience on work planning and work stress management.  In the Sharing Session, Mew will share with PolyU Community his work-life daily of taking up various roles.  His work planning and management tips to make him got every success in his career and study.  Participants may go through the checklist to review our work stress with Mew together.  He will share with us his experience of work stress handling and the ways he manage his health with the tight working schedule and workload.   Please find the event details and enrollment below:  Date:    19 October 2021 (Tuesday) Time:   1:00 - 2:00 p.m. Platform:   Zoom (PolyU access required) Guest Speaker:  Mr Mew Suppasit JONGCHEVEEVAT  Language:   English  Enrollment:   https://polyu.hk/HvOfT Remarks:  The Sharing Session is a pre-recorded broadcasting.  The Session was recorded in late-August 2021.  Duration: 46 minutes    About the Guest Speaker Mr Mew Suppasit JONGCHEVEEVAT, well known as “Mew”, is a famous Thai actor, singer and model.  He gains popularity within Thailand as well as the Asia.   Mew established Mew Suppasit Studio in 2020.  He is also a producer of drama series.  His coming drama series namely “The Ocean Eyes” is expected to roadshow in late-2021.   As a young entertainer with high academic qualifications, Mew has obtained his Bachelor Degree in Industrial Engineering at First Class Honour from Kasetsart University of Thailand, followed by a Master Degree in Industrial Engineering at Chulalongkorn University.  Mew is now a current PhD student with majoring Industrial Engineering at Chulalongkorn University.
