I visited Holiday Inn Express Hong Kong SoHo - an IHG Green Engage hotel - with thirty other SHTMAA alumni on October, 27. This distinct program was imitated by the informative and fascinating General Manager of the hotel. Followed by a hotel visit starting from 38/F to the street level, this enable all of us to have a view of all green initiatives throughout the building. This unique experience allowed me to understand more environmental impact from the hotel's design. Apparently, the visit was concluded by an authentic Thai luncheon hosted in a Michelin's recommended restaurant - Moon Thai, located at the second floor of the hotel. Thankful for organizing such special visit which I believe all of us had enjoyed a wonderful afternoon.

It was a meaningful workshop of SHTMAA, not only for educational purpose but also for spiritual experience I would say. From this workshop, I learnt how to use food scraps such as onion skin or used coffee grounds and recycled them as a natural colouring of tie-dyeing.
We experienced a go-green journey by applying two techniques of tie-dyeing. Simply use rubber bands, marbles and wooden craft sticks, tie a pattern you desire on your cloth drawstring bag with your creativity. Then a pan of boiling with onion skins and potassium alum (明礬), an agent for colour stabilization, should be ready. You can then boil the cloth drawstring bag for 20 minutes. And it's done!
At the end of the workshop, we generated two unique cloth craft works. It was a fun day with joyful experience especially for city dwellers like us who can enjoy a relaxing Saturday afternoon for rejuvenation.

Hi, I am Tom Chan. It's my great pleasure to be invited by a SHTM alumnus to join this meaningful upcycling workshop.
The workshop content is very creative. It's amazing to learn the new concept of utilizing the food scraps. After a few steps of tie-dyeing, the food scraps have dyed beautiful and sophisticated patterns onto the napkin.
Overall, I am very impressed with the concept of “The Green Atrium”. It's very suitable for family to experience different eco-activities. As growing up in the city of Hong Kong, we are surrounded by the cement jungle. It is not easy to allow for the planting of different vegetables. It is great that “The Green Atrium” provides a place for children who can experience the hard work of the farmers.
On the other hand, this workshop offered a great chance for me to meet more people who are successful in different industries.
The workshop was very well organized and interesting. I would be pleased to join any activities organized by the SHTMAA again!
