Dr Barry Mak delivered a talk to general managers of travel agencies in Sichuan at a training seminar held in Chengdu, China on 6 March 2010. Dr Mak's talk focused on crisis management, transformation and upgrading, management mode and product innovation.

Professor Haiyan Song moderated a panel discussion session entitled "Leaders' Forum: Hotel Capital Management" at the Annual Conference of the Alliance of China Hotel Owners held in Guangzhou, China on 15-16 March 2010.

Dr David Jones and Dr Qu Xiao attended the 6th Annual China Hotel Development and Financing Conference held in Beijing, China on 24-26 March 2010. Dr Jones was one of the panellists for the session entitled "Do 5-star Hotels Work Without 5-star Employees?". Dr Xiao moderated the concurrent breakout session, "Large Scale Resort Development in China".

Professor Haiyan Song gave a keynote address on the "Hong Kong Tourism Satisfaction Index" at the Annual Meeting of the China Tourism Research Academy held in Beijing, China, on 9-11 April 2010.

Professor Kaye Chon, along with Dr Thomas Bauer, attended the PATA Annual Meeting held in Kuching, Malaysia on 23-26 April 2010. During the event, Professor Chon chaired the meeting of the Education and Training Committee. Professor Chon and Dr Bauer also visited USCI University in Kuching and presented lectures to hospitality and tourism students on "Developing Leadership for Asia's Hospitality and Tourism Industry" and "Tourism and Sustainability", respectively. Earlier on, Dr Bauer participated in the PATA Task Force on 15-18 April to assist with the establishment of the International School of Sustainable Tourism in Subic Bay, the Philippines.



Dr John Ap was invited to present a combined seminar/guest lecture on "Understanding the Asian Mindset (using HK Disneyland as a case study)" at the School of Management and Marketing, University of Wollongong in Australia on 22 April 2010.

Professor Rob Law presented the papers entitled "Hotel Website Performance Evaluation: A Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process Approach" and "A New Framework on Website Evaluation" at the International Conference on e-Business and e-Government held in Guangzhou, China on 7-9 May 2010.

Dr Basak Denizci and Dr Karin Weber attended the 5th World Conference for Graduate Research in Hospitality and Leisure held in Cappadocia, Turkey on 25-30 May 2010. Dr Denizci presented papers entitled "Chinese Customers' Perceptions on Hotels' Pricing Policies" and "Chinese Leisure Travelers' Preferences on Rate Restrictions in the Airline Industry".
