Professor Cathy Hsu, Ms Louisa Lee, a 2012 graduate of the Master of Philosophy in Hotel and Tourism Management programme, and Mr Lawrence Fong, a student in the Doctor of Philosophy in Hotel and Tourism Management programme, attended the 1st Asia Pacific Conference on Gambling and Commercial Gaming Research in Macau on 5-8 November 2012. Professor Hsu presented a paper entitled "Selection of Gaming Destinations among Mainland Chinese". Mr Fong presented a paper entitled "Locus of Control on Luck: Theoretical and Strategic Implications for Casino Gaming". Professor Hsu and Ms Lee co-presented the paper "An Exploratory Study on Hong Kong and Mainland Chinese Gaming Behavior in Macau Casinos".

Professor Brian King was invited to be a keynote speaker on the topic "Accreditation – International Issues, Trends and Future Directions" at the International Centre of Excellence in Tourism and Hospitality Education (THE-ICE) 6th International Panel of Experts Forum 2012 in Dubai, UAE on 18-20 November 2012. Professor King was one of four inaugural THE-ICE Fellows. A previous chair of the organisation, he was recognised for his academic contribution to tourism education, training and research over the nine years since the organisation was founded.

Professor Kaye Chon was invited as a keynote speaker on the topic "Global Trends and Issues in Tourism and Hospitality Education" at the ASEM Workshop on Technical and Vocational Education and Training for the Tourism and Hospitality Sector in Vienna, Austria on 20-21 November 2012.

Professor Kaye Chon delivered a speech on "Service Excellence in Travel, Meetings and Hospitality Industry" at the Association Dinner hosted by Meetings and Exhibitions Hong Kong (MEHK) during the European Incentive and Business Travel and Meetings (EIBTM) Forum 2012 in Barcelona, Spain on 28 November 2012.

Professor Haiyan Song and Dr Catherine Cheung attended the Association for Tourism in Higher Education Annual Conference 2012 in Cambridge, UK on 6-7 December 2012. Professor Song and Dr Cheung co-presented a paper entitled "The Effects of Experiential Learning and Employability Skills on the Learning Satisfaction of Hospitality Graduates in the Chinese Mainland".

Dr Karin Weber attended the Consumer Behaviour in Tourism Symposium in Bruneck, South Tyrol, Italy on 10-13 December 2012.
