On 8 July 2023 MILESAA has a technical visit to IVE Tsing Yi Solar Car SOPHIE. The event starts at 10:00, 16 participants have joined this event including our chairman (Eddy Wu) and our committee (Jane Wong and Kenneth Yu).

After the opening speech, Eddy Wu gives us an introduction about MILESAA and Kenneth Yu gives information on upcoming event.

IVE Tsing Yi Billy Chow (Acting head of Department of Engineering) gives an introduction on their SOPHIE journey.

“SOPHINE” philosophy stands for Striving, Obligation, Partnership, Harmony, Innovation and Exploration.

The SOPHINE starts its journey in 2010 with the development of SOPHINE 1 and in 2023 it has developed SOPHIE 8. In 2019 SOPHINE 6S has won the third place in the “Cruiser Class” in World Solar Challenge 2019.

During the presentation, we have a better understanding of the design including drag minimality, finesses ratio, flow separation and combination and the problems SOPHINE team has encountered during these years. After the presentation, Billy shows us SOPHINE 6S and SOPHINE 8 in the workshop.

Besides using the technology in SOPHINE, SOPHINE team has setup a startup company that uses its technology (power management and charging technology) to develop movable electric car charger that can reduce a lot of infrastructure in building electric car charging system.

The event ended at 12:15 after Q & A section, participants are very interested and satisfied with the event.
