Technical Visit to HKPC Future Manufacturing Hall and AI Applications Hall

Technical visit to HKPC Future Manufacturing Hall and AI applications Hall had completed on Oct 18, 2024. This was a joint event with The IET MIES section, there were totally 30 participants of which 12 participants were from PolyU MILES Alumni Association.

The event started with videos on safety measures, the history and figures of HKPC, the adoption of HKPC to China Development Policy and a short video clip showing how technology changed life.

The tour started from Future Manufacturing Hall, a slogan stated innovation reshape everything.

In Hong Kong has industry area, one of the video show case was a medicine factory previously depended on their workers to put medicines into the bottles but due to the workers were getting old and the medicine factory had difficulty in recruiting new workers, its manufacturing capacity was reduced, with the application of automatic medicine fill and transportation system, the manufacturing capacity could increase a few times and the number of workers could be reduced.

In the showcase of micro factory, the factory previously had 45 knitting machines that required 3 workers to operate one machine and the sleeve and the body clothe had to be done separately. With the improvement of manufacturing, each worker could operate 15 knitting machines and the whole clothing could be done at the same time. The kitting manufacturing time was reduced and could adopt small batch production.

The medicine cabinet concept was used as a showcase for diverse  technology that had been deployed in HKPC, this could give insight to companies to understand what technology HKPC currently had and could offer.

In the AL Applications Hall, over 20 different applications are shown in the hall.  InspecSpider can climb hexagonal-shape mast with height up to 35m from ground to inspect and record rust of mast. Engineers could inspect from ground by wire or wireless control and the result was displayed in the central monitoring system, with enhancement of ultrasound, it could be used to detect cracks. This could reduce risk for engineers or workers to climb up the mast for inspection.

iFLYREC multilingual simultaneous interpreter system is used in conference, exhibition hall, international communication, it supports nine languages recognition and machine translation, it also supports AI subtitles and multilingual recording.

AssemblyWise Intelligence Sequence Planning is incorporated automatic steps of assembly with CAD, thus reducing manual effort, facilities new product launches, thereby accelerating time to market.

After the tour for the two halls, we visited Advance Material and Intelligence Manufacturing Centre where new composite alloy was developed with lower weight and still could provide the strength as the steel or zinc alloy.

In Future FoodTech Lab four machines were introduced: Pressure-assisted Ultrasonic Thawing System, Cold Plasma Disinfection System, High Pressure Liquid Chilling Tunnel System and Thermal Process System, these technologies improve food preservation while maintaining food quality.

We took group photo at the end of the event, the event ended at 5:10pm with 10 minutes overrun, everyone had enjoyed the visit.
