Miss Ting Hiu Wai (Sara), who is a graduate student of the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISE), received the Peer Recognition Award and Project Nomination Award of “ASM Technology Award 2017”, an open competition run by ASM Pacific Technology Limited.

Sara, who graduated from the BEng (Hons) in Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISE) programme in 2017, won the awards with her final year international project entitled “Design of an Intelligent Occupational Safety Management System (IOSMS) in Cold Chain Logistics”, which was supervised by Dr K.L. Choy.

The student project explores the integration between Internet of Things (IoT) and artificial intelligence (AI) techniques in the field of occupational safety and health. The proposed system integrates Internet of Things (IoT) concept, real-time sensing technology, cloud services, and fuzzy logic technique for workers to achieve occupational safety and operational efficiency working under cold environment. After the adoption of IOSMS, (i) occupational safety and health level of workers, and (ii) operational efficiency were improved with three-month investigation in the case company.

The competition is an annual event organized by ASM Pacific Technology Limited, and is open to all final year undergraduates who are studying engineering-related programmes with their final year project appraised at Grade A. It aims to recognize and reward students with outstanding Final Year Projects which demonstrate excellence in technology and innovation.
