As the coronavirus spreads, studying online and working from home are the new reality for PolyU students and staff. To enable students to embrace online teaching and staff to remote work from home, there is a list of initiatives ITS have taken:
- Secure VPN service with two-factor authentication to business applications holding sensitive and confidential information.
- IP telephony service to enable office phone number to be picked up from home or personal mobile phone.
- Audio conferencing service via office IP phone for staff working at home and with external participants.
- Virtual desktop service enable staff to remote access to office machines running at campus.
- Virtual computer lab service to allow staff and students to remote access to computer lab servers and machines with special licensed software.
- Virtual meeting via MS Teams meeting and collaboration via MS Teams Site for staff and students.
- Join synchronous online teaching delivery session via video conferencing tool (Blackboard Collaborate Ultra, MS Teams, Zoom) by students.
- Access online teaching materials and submit assignments via LEARN@PolyU platform for students.
- China Telecom secured VPN service for Mainland based students to direct connect to LEARN@PolyU/ join BB Collaborate session hosted overseas.
- Collaborate with Cloud based service providers to dynamically scale up resources to support growing demand for processing power and storage.
With more operation such as CPCE post-DSE announcement admission shifting to go online, we will bring in more innovative technology such as virtual queuing for prospective student to smoothly complete their application process via online.
