To strengthen the security for remote access to PolyU internal applications and data outside campus, a new VPN service will be made available commencing early April for all staff. The new VPN software will be tied in with two-factor authentication process. The existing Pulse Secure VPN service will retire after the transition period in June 2021.
The new VPN platform and software allow higher throughput and concurrent VPN sessions capacity.
Remote access of the prevailing VPN profiles for different types of application will be consolidated and simplified for different kinds of user. For general staff, the new VPN service called Staff VPN will be available to access various user applications on PolyU campus.
Uplifted security
The use of NetID/NetPassword as a single-factor of authentication is not secure enough for remote access to PolyU campus. To strengthen the remote access security, Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) will be applied, lifting the remote access security to a higher level.
For ease of transition to the new VPN service, both new VPN and existing Pulse Secure VPN service will be running in parallel in April and May with Pulse Secure VPN service retiring on 1 June 2021.
Details about re-registration for the new VPN service will be announced soon. Stay tuned.
