The University Research Facility Management System (URFMS) is a common platform designed to facilitate researchers and students in checking availability, safety use training pre-requisites and book relevant research facilities at University Research Facilities (URFs) or department labs. URFMS streamlines the management and cost recovery processes of URFs and department labs, making it a useful tool for Principal Investigators (PIs) to allocate research project funding to research team members for using URFs and department lab equipment.
A new feature is brought to the URFMS in April 2024 - the 'non-billable' instrument. This feature allows department students to leverage URFMS to book labs equipment directly, without the need to specify a research funding source or cost center code. The system will automatically eliminate subsequent billing processes, making it easier for facilities administrators to set up instruments on URFMS intended for free use. This simplification eliminates the effort required to configure price tables and pricing rules for cost recovery.
If you are administering department lab equipment that is intended to be offered for free use by department students, you can consider putting the equipment on URFMS as ’non-billable’ and opening availability timeslots for direct student booking.
