BLE-iCare is an intelligent caring system to enhance the safety of the elderly. It helps to monitor fall incidents, which is an important contributing factor leading to ill health and injuries in the aged population.
Making use of Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) technology, BLE-iCare consists of 3 key elements, i) BLE-Wristband incorporating barometric sensors and accelerometers to perform real-time monitoring of any fall accidents; ii) Blu2hub employing cloud technology for data transmission and analyses of the pattern of falls or accidents; iii) BLE-iCare coupled with BLE marker and mobile application for real-time checking and alert, medication identification and diet management. BLE-iCare can be deployed in the elderly homes to relieve routine administrative works, as well as provide important data for analyzing fall patterns which are crucial for prevention of future accidents.
