Graduates’ careers and development is always one of our biggest concerns as an academic department. LSGI is a unique source of graduates in disciplines of land surveying, geo-information systems and utility surveying. We are always delighted to see increase in employment rate and steady growth on salary of our graduates. In 2019 graduate survey, the average salary of our bachelor’s programme increased by 1.8% to $19,210 per month. To share the latest career opportunities in our disciplines for existing students, the Career Talk 2021 was successfully held on 29 Jan 2021 online by LSGI and LSGI Students’ Society. Due to the epidemic, it’s a pity that our guest speakers cannot come to give face-to-face sharing for our students.

Ir Dr Wallace Lai, programme leader of BSc(Hons) in Land Surveying and Geo-Informatics, welcomed our guest speakers and kicked start the talk with admission information for senior place of our bachelor’s progrmame in 2021. It was followed by sharing on land surveying career by 6 representatives from the Planning Department of HKSAR Gov’t, including Ms. Maggie Chin, Assistant Director/Technical Services, Mr. Hayden Kwan, Senior Town Planner/Training and Information, Ms. Nicky Ng, Chief Survey Officer/Planning, Mr. John Ku, Survey Officer/Tseung Kwan O, Ms. Mabel Wu, Survey Officer/Metro and Urban Renewal and Mr. C. H. Leung, Survey Officer/Hong Kong. Prior to this talk, we also invited the representatives from Survey and Mapping Office of Lands Department to give sharing on career opportunities and path for our students during regular class.

In addition to public sector, we also invited 2 speakers to share the job market of private sector. Mr. Jimmy Lau from Bentley Systems and Mr. Zico Kwok from Castco Testing Centre Ltd shared the job opportunities and specifications in software and utility surveying corporations. They both suggested the rising demand in private sector in related disciplines and recruitment tips.

We wish to express heartfelt thanks to all speakers who gave fruitful sharing to over 110 HD, BSc and MSc students.
