Job Summary

MSc in Innovative Multimedia & Entertainment (MScIME) of School of Design is a taught postgraduate programme working closely with PolyU Research Centre for Cultural and Art Technology and PolyU-NVIDIA Joint Research Centre. As an eligible employer under STEM Internship Scheme set up by the Innovation and Technology Commission (“ITC”), HKSAR government, MScIME is seeking highly skilled undergraduate & postgraduate students in the area of creative technologies, cultural heritage, artificial intelligence generated content, metaverse, digital content to join our team during winter of 2024. We are looking for four internship positions under two tracks. 

 

Track 1: AIGC Visual Artist / Designer

Project Description:

The intern will explore the intersection of creative design and artificial intelligence. This role combines traditional graphic design skills with emerging AI tools and technical problem-solving.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Create visual content using both traditional design tools and AI-assisted platforms (Midjourney, DALL-E, Stable Diffusion etc.)
  • Post-process and refine AI-generated artwork using Adobe Creative Suite, such as Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
  • Collaborate with the team to ensure visual narratives align with overarching project themes.
  • Receive and implement feedback to refine visuals and meet creative standards.

Required Skills:

  • Artistic capabilities, with the ability to produce compelling graphic design.
  • Proficiency in digital illustration tools and experienced in open source AI generated images tools.
  • Knowledge in print production.

Track 2: VR / MR / XR Developers 

 

Project 2 - VR Developer: VR Interaction Design and Development

Project Description:

As an intern, you will be actively involved in the development of Virtual Reality (VR) applications for the Meta Quest platform, designed to give users a better experience and perception of learning based on how they interact in VR.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the development of immersive VR features.
  • Collaborate with the team to design, implement and improve augmented VR spaces.
  • Perform testing of Meta Quest / Vision Pro to ensure functionality, performance, and user satisfaction.
  • Attend and participate in project meetings to provide updates and receive feedback on development progress.

Required Skills:

  • Basic skills in UI/UX design.
  • Experience with Unity / UE development and familiarity with Meta Quest / Vision Pro platforms or other VR development equipment is required.
  • Familiarity with programming languages such as C#, C++, and Python.
  • Strong problem solving and timely feedback skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

What do we look for in your CV/Portfolio?

  • Experience developing applications for iOS or Android.

 

Project 3 - Visual Artist and VR Developer

Project Description:

As an intern, you will be actively involved in the development of a Virtual Reality (VR) application for the Meta Quest platform, designed to allow users to convey imaginative stories through visual art.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Assist in porting Unity projects to VR platforms, ensuring a seamless and immersive experience.

  • Design and produce compelling animations that vividly tell stories or create immersive experience.

  • Conduct tests on the Meta Quest to ensure functionality, performance, and user satisfaction.

  • Attend and contribute to project meetings, providing updates and receiving feedback on development progress.

Required Skills:

  • Artistic capabilities, with the ability to produce engaging visual narratives.

  • Experience with Unity is required. Basic understanding of VR development, particularly for the Meta Quest platform or other VR development tools is highly beneficial.

  • Experience with Blender is required.

What do we look for in your CV/Portfolio?

  • Prior experience of applications built for Unity.
  • Animations that illustrates your capacity.

 

Project 4 & 5: MR / XR Developer

Project 4 Description:

This project aims to integrate Mixed Reality (MR) into sketch-based map drawing and analysis, addressing the limitations of traditional interfaces by enhancing interactivity and validation of MR's benefits for map workflows.

Project 5 Description:

This project explores adaptive UI positioning and movement in XR, shifting from fixed placements to dynamic attachment on entities like animals or vehicles, utilizing scene understanding to optimize user interface mobility.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for developing an interactive MR interface for map analysis in Project 4 and designing adaptive XR dynamic UIs in Project 5. Requires skills in XR UI design, Unity development (C#, C++, or Python), and user research with data analysis to enhance user experience and system functionality.

Required Skills:

  • XR User Interface Design and Development: Possess UI/UX design skills and understand how to design and implement dynamic user interfaces in Virtual Reality (VR) or Augmented Reality (AR).
  • Programming and Development Skills: Familiar with Unity development for prototyping XR applications. Proficient in programming languages like C#, C++, or Python.
  • User Research and Data Analysis: Knowledge of basic user research methods and data analysis techniques, with familiarity in using fundamental data analysis software.

  • Prior experience of applications built for Unity

 

Track 3: Research

Project 6: GenAI-empowered Design Activities Research Intern

Project Description:

Conduct research on GenAI-based multi-agent systems and their applications in enhancing teamwork and creativity in the design process.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Develop and test prototypes of multi-agent systems, including front-end development and interface design, to evaluate their effectiveness in collaborative design tasks.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate GenAI-based solutions into existing design workflows.
  • Utilize Python for data analysis, system development, and automation tasks related to the project.

Required Skills:

  • Experience with Unity is required.
  • Experience with Python is required.
  • Interest in GenAI technologies and their application in design.

  • Technical skills and track of records.

 

Eligibility

As required by ITC, the STEM Internship Scheme is open to undergraduates and postgraduates who are:

  • local or non-local students enrolling on one of the full-time STEM programmes (please refer to the List of Eligible STEM Programmes” on this page) recognised by ITC to be eligible for the Scheme;

  • from any year of studies; and

  • legally employable in Hong Kong.

Job Offer

The internship will be offered for 6 weeks within the period from 2 Dec 2024 to 10 Jan 2025. Successful candidate will receive allowance for HK$11,190 per month (i.e. 30days).
